Hiwot Emishaw
Hiwot is a creative writer and published author from Ethiopia. Her debut book Barcho (the dark skinned) is centered on the Ethiopian identity and heavily criticizes social, cultural and political stereotypes. Barcho went on to become a best seller in Ethiopia in 2015. She is currently working on her second book, Fqfaqi, which is a collection of stories that will facilitate open conversations on the issue of rape and other social issues. Hiwot is also a prominent writer on Facebook (over 120,000 followers) where she writes about several social issues. Hiwot holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Addis Ababa University and works for Save the Children in Ethiopia as Head of Communications.
