Hazer is the Founder and Executive Director of Islampur Cottage Industries Association, which works to eliminate the system of bonded labor in Pakistan’s cottage industry, an informal industry consisting of small businesses run from people’s homes. Due to the lack of labor protection laws, many workers in the cottage industry are exploited by middlemen. Hazer’s organization develops mutually beneficial solutions among stakeholders in the weaving community to optimize the value chain and break through a traditionally exploitative system. He oversees culture, governance and rural development, and is an Ashoka Fellow.
