Arushi Chowdhury Khanna
Founder at LoomKatha
India Fellow
I have been working in enhancing livelihood opportunities for Indian artisans for the past 7 years. Most recently, I headed the Craftmark Program at the All India Artisans and Craftworkers Wellfare Association (AIACA). While I have largely been engaged in the non-profit sector, I was chosen as an Acumen Fellow in 2014 and this opened my eyes to the world of social enterprise which I now firmly believe is the only way forward to create lasting impact in the artisan sector. I thus set up LoomKatha earlier this year with the specific aim of connecting rural artisans and handloom weavers to the global market, enabling greater economic value of the end-product to be transferred back to the producer. Our focus is on discovering those crafts that are on the verge of extinction, nurturing them back to like through skill development programs and linking the practioners to sustainable markets across the globe.
