Vitalis Tix Kahendah
2015
In memoriam 1974-2021. Vitalis is a passionate educator and community development worker who believes in education as an effective and sustainable tool in transforming the poverty-riddled lives of marginalized and excluded children in Kenya. He founded Tumaini House School in 2000, the 1st public high school in Kenya to offer free education to economically disadvantaged children. He later founded Hopewell School which continues providing education refuge and care to children in need. The Tumaini School model was used by the Kenya government in rolling out Free Secondary Education in all the 5000 public high schools in Kenya from January 2008. Vitalis serves the larger Nakuru community through membership in the boards of various schools, community based organizations and Rotary Club where he has served as president.
